The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominations for the 53rd Emmy Awards
At the head of the pack, HBO's "The Sopranos" picked up 22 nominations including best drama.
NBC's "The West Wing" collected 18 nominations.
In 2000 "West Wing" set a record for a first-year show with nine Emmys.
"The Sopranos" won just one, for best actor in James Gandolfini.
September 16, was the date when the Academy was set to reveal the winners of television's top honors.
