  • November 26: Previews begin for the December 18 opening of Tommy Tune: White Tie &Tails.

  • November 14: The Perlman/Schmidt/Bailey trio, will perform the New York premiere of Lowell Liebermann's Trio No. 2 for Violin, Piano, and Cello Opus 77 in one movement, at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Centre.

  • November 13: Al (former Vice-President of the US) and Tipper Gore discuss their publishing careers and their 2 new books out in the Fall: 'Joined at the Heart: Transformation of the American Family' and 'The Spirit of Family', in conversation with Leonard Lopate at the 92nd Street Y.

  • November 7: What could be more enlightening than listening to the master of angst, Woody Allen discussing a subject close to his heart with clinical assistant Professor, the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, Gail Saltz, MD.  What is the topic?  Why of course, it's 'Psychoanalysis in the Films of Woody Allen'.

  • November 4: Edie Falco of The Sopranos, Law and Order and Homicide fame,  in conversation with Judith Regan at the 92nd Street Y.

  • November 1: Sneak Preview of Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary.   Internationally acclaimed experimental filmmaker Guy Maddin, "invoking his self-proclaimed ambition to redeem the name of melodrama," brings his gothically surreal cinematic style to this dazzling black-and-white, silent adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, based on the Royal Winnipeg Ballet production. New York Times, film critic A. O. Scott said: "Its characters may be undead, but the film itself is crazily, passionately alive." Also included is an interview with Maddin. (2002; 100 minutes).  All takes place at the Museum of Television & Radio at 7.00pm. (The movie is scheduled to open theatrically at Film Forum in spring 2003)

  • October 24:  Opening night of Twyla Tharp and Billy Joel's new musical/dance production 'Movin' Out'.  Ms. Tharp may be tried and tested as a choreographer treading the boards of Manhattan, but Bully Joel is untried and tested as the two put dance and music together for this new show previewing from September 30 at the Richard Rogers Theatre.

  • October 22 & 23: The Museum of Television & Radio, will present a two-part seminar series examining the important role television played in the Missile Crisis between Cuba and America.  October 22 -Part One: The Cuban Missile Crisis and Television, and October 23 - Part Two: After the Missile Crisis: Forty Years of Covering Cuba.  Both between 7.30 and 9.00pm.

  • October 20: Amour by Michel Legrand and his first Broadway production based upon a French short story about a man who can walk through walls.   Previews start on September 20 at the Music Box Theater on West 45th Street.

  • October 18: World Monuments Fund Hadrain Wall Luncheon 2002 honors Héléne and Michele Weill.

  • October 17: Opening of a new musical as part of the Richard Rodgers centennial celebrations.  But this one has a twist!  Based on a book by Rodgers and Hammerstein, this musical about a Chinese woman's arrival in San Francisco first opened in 1958.  The reworked production is a must because unlike the original it brings to Broadway a largely Asian cast - unique in itself - and gives a chance to much of the talent which rarely has an opportunity to be cast in a big show.  Previews of the Flower Drum Song start in September at the Virginia Theater.

  • October 15 - February 9, 2003: Uncle Tom is an American institution, and for those who may be interested, this year (2002) is also the 150th Anniversary of the publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin.  If you are too lazy to get that old copy out to read the book again, take a leisurely stroll around the New York Historical Society to see how Uncle Tom has been seen - throughout the last 150 years, from a new millennium perspective.

  • October 12: Lincoln Center Theater presents A Man of No Importance - a new musical with the book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.  Cast includes: Michael McCormick, Faith Prince, and Roger Rees. Previews at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater begin September 12.  Sounds fabulous.

  • October 8 - December 1: Jackie Mason serves up 'Prune Danish' for eight weeks only. He stands alone as one of the great, stand-up, ex-Rabbis.  Be sure to catch the show at the Royale Theatre on West 45th if you find this funny man, funny!

  • October 7: Sees the first night previews of Hollywood Arms, a new play by Carol Burnett and Carrie Hamilton, directed by one of Broadway's best - Mr Hal Prince - at the Cort Theatre on 48th Street.

  • September 29: An insider's view of the film industry as actor, director and film maker, Sydney Pollack - largely responsible for 'Tootsie' and 'Out of Africa' - chats about his career with Judith Regan, at the 92nd Street Y.

  • September 27-29: Annual 'The New Yorker Magazine Festival' kicks off with a virtual litany of the literary.

  • September 26, 28, 30: The Rolling Stones - the ultimate British band who defy the ageing process by running around the stage just like they did in the seventies - are back on yet another of those Round the World tours.  Kicking off in Boston on September 3, they reach the Roseland Ballroom later in the month.  With all things retro in fashion, you can guarantee that the Stones will perform some of those fabulous great oldies in a way that only the 'real' oldies can do it.  This concert will also guarantee a more mature audience but there's no accounting for their behavior!

  • September 23: Macy's kick-off the celebrations of 100 year at Herald Square with Remember Me to Herald Square - a musical and fashion tribute taking place on Broadway between 34th and 35th street.  .  And for your information Macy's had its first home on 14th Street.

  • September 23: The Museum of Sex has its inaugural exhibition and only for those of 18 years of age and over.  So bring I.D. to the exhibit "NYC Sex: How New York City Transformed Sex in America" and be warned, this is not for the easily offended!

  • September 21 - October 19: There is no question that Tracey Emin - who cares little for her critics or her fans - is one of the names of the 21st century international art world.  If you haven't taken a close-up and personal look at this artist's work then the more brave, edgy, experimental, etc. of you should wander up or down to Lehmann Maupin at 39 Greene Street in Soho to form your own opinion of one of the most controversial artist's of the recent decade.

  • September 11: Opening of a two-week showing of 'The Pinochet Case' at the Film Forum on West Houston Street.  The date in 1973 saw Pinochet overthrow the Chilean democratically elected government and install his own dictatorship.   The film  - written and directed by Patricio Guzman - is in Spanish with subtitles.

  • September 10: Actress Elaine Stritch chats to Judith Regan about her 50 years in the theater at the 92nd Street Y.
